The main objective of the transmission expansion planning (TEP) problem is to figure out the location and number of additional transmission lines that need to be built on the transmission system to fulfill the increased load demand with minimum investment costs. However, TEP is a non-linear, complex, and integer-mixed optimization problem. Thus, finding an optimal method for solving this problem is a challenge for many researchers, especially for the AC model. In this study, an improved zebra optimization algorithm (IZOA) is applied to solve the ACTEP problem. Moreover, the reactive power planning (RPP) problem is also considered in this study to reduce the investment cost of the ACTEP problem. The well-known Graver 6 bus system is used to examine the IZOA method. Moreover, to explore the effectiveness of the suggested method, the obtained solutions by using the suggested algorithm are compared with other existing algorithms in the literature and the original ZOA algorithm.
