The transshipment platform is a floating dock that enables the transfer and transportation of the cargo from large and small bulk-cargo ships at sea, in order to solve the problem of insufficient berthing capacity for large ships at coastal docks. Based on a brief description of the features and development status at home and abroad of transshipment platforms, this chapter provides a detailed analysis of the classification, main components, and working principles of transshipment platforms; especially conducts in-depth research on the ship, deck cranes, funnel receiving system, belt conveyor system, ship loader, and support structure of transshipment platforms; and finally makes a brief introduction of the navigation issues, main technical performance parameters, design and selection considerations, and technical standards and specifications of transshipment platforms.
