This paper investigates a critical aspect of component selection in vehicle electronics, where capacitors play a vital role in ensuring reliable circuit operation. In automotive applications, the selection of appropriate components extends beyond matching basic specifications and ratings, as seemingly identical components can exhibit significantly different performance characteristics under demanding conditions. Through comprehensive analysis of two capacitors with identical specifications, this research examines how internal construction and material properties influence component reliability in automotive environments. The study employs detailed cross-sectional analysis and controlled testing to understand the underlying factors affecting performance variations. The findings reveal significant differences in internal architecture, including variations in layer count, electrode spacing, and edge protection, despite identical external specifications. Furthermore, material composition analysis demonstrates how optimized dielectric formulation and termination metallurgy contribute to enhanced reliability.

    This research establishes a clear correlation between internal structural design, material properties, and component performance in automotive applications. The findings emphasize the importance of comprehensive component evaluation beyond electrical specifications, contributing to improved selection methodologies for automotive electronics where reliability is paramount. These insights provide valuable guidance for engineers in selecting components that can withstand the rigorous demands of automotive environments.
