Sustainability has been considered, by many researchers, as a major concern for transportation planning in logistics processes. The types of vehicles which transport goods in supply chain from the source to destination affect the sustainability of the transportation system. Accordingly, a two-phase model is proposed in this chapter for optimizing the transportation planning in a three-stage supply chain. In the first phase, the efficiency of different types of vehicles is measured in terms of sustainability based on the extended data envelopment analysis (DEA) model. In the second phase, the output of the first phase is used to develop a model for optimization of the transportation planning, considering the total profit, efficiency of various vehicles, and resilience. In this chapter, the lateral transshipment and direct shipment are embedded in the supply chain structure in order to consider the resilience. In addition, the traffic congestion resulted from shipping the goods to customers is considered in the proposed optimization model. Since the extended DEA and the transportation planning optimization models both are multi-objective models, the goal programming and meta-goal programming approaches are used for solving these models. The application of the proposed models is illustrated by a case study. Finally, a sensitivity analysis is performed on some important parameters.
