Abstract By taking the 32.645-kilometer-long Guanjiao tunnel of Qinghai-Tibet railway as the object of research, the technology of disaster prevention and rescue in the high-altitude super-long railway tunnel was studied. Combined methods of fire model test and numerical simulation, combustion characteristics in the high-altitude super-long railway tunnel were discussed, and the Available Safety Evacuation Time (ASET) was obtained. From the viewpoint of people’s safety evacuation, software called STEPS was used to establish the personnel evacuation model aimed to simulate the process of the personnel evacuation and analyze the evacuation time under different fire scenes at the emergency station. Setting schemes of the emergency station and the cross-passage of Guanjiao super-long railway tunnel were determined preliminarily, and it also provided a basis for optimizing the design of safety evacuation facilities of the super-long railway tunnel.
