This study analyzes the feasibility of utilizing dual-flow electromechanical portal drive axles in the chassis of mass-produced agricultural and industrial tractors. The “Kirovets” tractor family was selected as a case study due to the relevance of replacing the wheeled undercarriage with a tracked one. The use of tracked modules increases the height of the tractor’s chassis center of mass, reducing both longitudinal and lateral rollover stability and, consequently, operational safety. The paper proposes an approach to integrating a traction electric motor into the portal drive axle, based on experience in designing kinematic schemes for dual-flow power transmission mechanisms and turning mechanisms for tracked vehicles, as well as controlled power distribution mechanisms for wheeled vehicles. Key calculation dependencies are provided to assess the kinematic and force parameters for such designs. The prospects of applying technologies, proven in transport engineering, for the production of drive axles with the proposed structure are discussed. Electromechanical portal axles may find applications in transport engineering (tractors, municipal and special-purpose vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, buses, etc.) in the development of road construction and forestry wheeled and tracked machines.
