Abstract A Multi-purpose Space Station (MPSS) visited periodically by a crew is being designed to accomplish a wide range of scientific and applied tasks. Such a frequently visited space station will be launched into low Earth orbit (LEO) with an inclination of up to 73 degrees to observe high latitude areas of the Earth. The station will give opportunities to carry out research and experiments which cannot be implemented on the International Space Station (ISS). This paper addresses the main aspects of the MPSS programme which aims to meet the requirements of the worldwide user community.
