His Early Patent History up to 1939 Hans Joachim Pabst von Ohain (1911–1998) started serious patent search at the RPA Reichspatentamt (Reich patent office) Berlin as part of his invention of a ‘light microphone’ in 1934, which became part of his doctoral thesis in physics at the Goettingen University. Since his family lived still in Berlin, it was rather convenient for him to browse through patent filings in the large RPA reading and research room at Gitschiner Strasse 100, just 1 km off the offices of his patent attorney Dr. Ernst Wiegand (born 1905), sharing office with (presumably his brother) Dr. Carl Wiegand. Hans von Ohain finished his thesis examination at Goettingen in early 1935, and was thereafter focused on the principle test preparation of his ‘Garage turbojet engine model’ in the court yard of Professor Pohl’s Institute in June 1935 —and his first corresponding patent application in this context, which was filed in his name already on 15 May 1935, Fig. 12.1 (I).
