The demand of automobiles for transportation is ever lasting. Humans need to travel from place to place to fulfil many of their basic needs. Currently, the majority of the automobiles run on non-renewable fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel, and they are a major source of pollution. In India, compressed natural gas (CNG) started to be used as an alternative after sky-high levels of pollution. High octane number, high dissipating property, already existing gas stations, cheap and less pollution are some of the properties justifying the usage of CNG as a substitute for fossil fuel. Despite having so many benefits, the use of CNG is limited to mostly commercial purposes heavy vehicles. In two-wheeler vehicles, there exist certain kits for modern scooters only, which allows CNG to be used as a fuel in petrol engines with some modifications. But the implementation of CNG as a fuel for motorcycles is negligible due to unavailability of such kits along with certain factors such as safety, compactness, and ergonomics. According to some reports, two-wheeler vehicles account for almost 1/3rd of the air pollutants in India. This paper describes the method to enable motorcycles currently running on petrol to use CNG as an alternative fuel. To achieve this, constituent parts of CNG operated vehicles are assembled in a motorcycle to modify its design. The same is also depicted by designing the constituent parts like reducer, CNG cylinder, delivery valves, etc. in SolidWorks, followed by theoretical analysis of stability. Finally, the cost benefit analysis like market research, mileage, and break-even analysis for determining the time taken to compensate the cost of the prototype is performed. Along with this, major pollution parameters including emitted CO and HC are measured and compared with traditional petrol counterparts.
