Abstract It is a matter of time until vehicles will be capable of chauffeuring the driver when he/she prefers that. After all, vehicles will gradually take over more and more driving tasks over the oncoming years so that the driver turns into a user who is free to engage in a variety of other pursuits. Prior to that, however, the driver needs to learn trusting the new technology and to develop an awareness of the current driving situation, which in turn means that the elements of the human-machine interaction need to exert a positive influence on the user experience (UX). The prerequisite for a positive UX is a holistic way of taking the driver’s preferences, requirements, the current situation, and the driver’s environment into account.
