This paper describes the user-evaluation process of a head-up display (HUD) display for conditionally automated vehicle. The main goal of the presented HUD is to help drivers with the monitoring of the environment when operating a conditionally automated vehicle, and the transiting between different levels of automation. This paper presents the perceived usability, user experience, and acceptance of such an automotive telematics solution. The high scores on all of the observed aspects indicate that the proposed HUD could contribute to the acceptance, willingness to use and with that, fasted and more successful adaptation on conditionally automated vehicles on European roads and wider. The presented work was part of an international project with the main goal to investigate different innovative approaches and technologies for supporting new driver tasks and responsibilities in vehicles with different levels of automation. In addition to the assessment of the HUD within the project, this paper provides also an overview of the project, its goals, and how its innovations address European mobility needs.
