Abstract ITN Energy Systems, Inc., in partnership with the US Air Force Research Laboratory, has undertaken the task of developing the Technology Satellite of the 21st Century (TechSat 21). This program served as the foundation for ITN to create a separate operating company, MicroSat Systems, Inc. (MSI), on 2 April 2001 to provide small satellites and space qualified subsystems to commercial and government customers for a variety of different missions. Not only will this technology demonstration qualify new, lightweight and low cost subsystems that can be used in all areas of space application but also demonstrate the ability to use clusters of small satellites to replace large satellites, at significant cost savings.
