A BDS short message-based conflict detection and traffic alert system is designed for general aviation surveillance. The system has a centralized structure. The ground command center receives parameters such as position, velocity, and aircraft ID from airborne equipment through BDS short message, performs flight conflict detection based on these parameters, then packages the conflict information into an alert message and sends it to general aircraft in the airspace to achieve flight conflict detection and alerting. To verify the reliability of the system, a simulated scenario with an airspace of 50 km radius is established with the BDS short message service period of 10 s and a maximum message length of 1280 bits. The verification is carried out using 35 general aircraft, and the conflict levels are classified into two categories: protected airspace (PA) and traffic alert (TA). The Monte Carlo experience shows that the missed alert rate is less than 3.3% and the system is beneficial and reliable for maintaining general aviation safety.
