Abstract The paper deals with the use of additive manufacturing in mechanical engineering education and the evaluation of learning outcomes of the subjects of mechanical engineering. Students learning outcomes have been evaluated as per Bloom’s taxonomy. To make the students understand the product development, process and the basic learning of additive manufacturing projects are given to students. By doing the projects, students learn, how to design and develop the product and how to make a prototype of it by using the CAD tools and the analysis tool. Thus, after making the prototype, a self-observation is done by taking the feedback from the students and grading it for different levels of Bloom’s taxonomy, and by the statical analysis, the observations are made so to how much the students understand the various concepts of the subject by using the prototypes made by additive manufacturing. The input parameters are knowledge of additive manufacturing, CAD and materials, and output parameters are the forms of Bloom’s taxonomy. The evaluation of using additive manufacturing for pedagogical purpose in mechanical engineering education is done by the feedback from the students. A comparative study was done to check the learning levels of Bloom’s taxonomy of students without and with additive manufacturing.
