As the main external disturbance of the quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the wind in nature causes unknown interference of the flight states of the quadrotor, which will adversely affect the performance of the control system. This paper introduces a method to estimate the horizontal wind speed in hover mode of the quadrotor UAV. Based on the extended state observer (ESO), the disturbance of the quadrotor UAV in hover mode is observed, and the relationship between the disturbance and the wind speed is established through a neural network to estimate the magnitude and direction of the horizontal wind speed. The effectiveness of the method is proved by simulation.
