Providing travel information is expected to be an effective measure to induce changes in travel behavior for the benefit of the transport system. This study focuses on the homeward trips after sightseeing and analyzes the factors influencing departure time changes. An experiment was conducted using a smartphone application that provides information on estimated travel times of different departure times and nearby tourism spots. Hayashi’s quantitation theory type II was applied to identify the influencing factors. A discrete choice model on departure time choice was also developed. The analysis results showed that personal attributes and location characteristics impact departure time and travel times. Personal attributes such as female, aged in the 20s, travel without children under 13 years old, location characteristics such as close to expressway entrance, having more tourism spots nearby, and shortened travel time have positive impacts on delaying departure times.
