Summarizing the existing findings, the following conclusions can be drawn regarding the past changes in the wind climate: There has been an increase in storminess in the latter part of the twentieth century; However, the evidence suggests that at least in the NE Atlantic and in the northwest Europe the storminess was at the same level at the end of the nineteenth century as at the end of the twentieth century.
