Plenoptic is derived from the Latin words plenus (“full”) + optic and was proposed by Edward Adelson in 1991. The plenoptic function is a seven-dimensional function describing the three-dimensional viewing position, two-dimensional visual angle, one-dimensional wavelength, and one-dimensional time of a light ray in space.
