With the driver’s familiarity on the route and the improvement of vehicle performance, increasing the speed limit has become a problem that must be faced in China. Based on this purpose, it is particularly important to demonstrate the safety of driving at different speed limit levels. The article collected position and velocity information based on real-world experiments, and analyzed the driving safety conditions under different speed limit, and then analyzed the variability of acceleration and acceleration change rates. The results show that there is a significant difference in acceleration under different speed limit conditions and no significant pattern in the rate of change of acceleration. The driver’s acceleration is more concentrated and more stable when it is less than 140 km/h. The driver’s acceleration is more discrete when it is greater than 140 km/h, but it is still within the safety curve, which means that the driver can still keep driving safely when the speed limit is increased. The conclusion can provide support for the development of superhighways and provide a theoretical basis for the safety of superhighway operation.
