The paper presents the results of substantiating the parameters of the main indicators of transportation and fuel and energy efficiency of diesel and electric traction mainline (train) freight locomotives during the operation of freight trains with stops and without stops at separate interstations of the real hilly and mountainous section of Marokand - Kattakurgan Uzbek railway. It is proved that in comparison with diesel locomotives 3TE10M and UzTE16M3 electric locomotives 3VL80 S save money for train traction and railroad transportation of goods approximately by 5.3–5.5 times. The UzTE16M3 diesel locomotives are more economical in diesel fuel consumption than 3TE10M diesel locomotives, by 12.82 percent on average. The implementation of the electric traction locomotive unit and UzTE16M3 diesel locomotives will improve the fuel and energy performance of the locomotive fleet of JSC O'zbekiston Temir Yo'llari and will reduce the cost of freight rail transportation on the hilly and mountainous sections of Uzbek railways.
