In order to study the typical dynamic characteristics and its physical mechanism for the flying-wing configuration aircraft, the basic aerodynamic characteristics of flying wing and that of conventional configuration aircraft were compared and analyzed. The global stability analysis method based on bifurcation theory, combining with the root locus analysis method, was used to reveal it’s performance, stability, motion mode characteristics and evolution rules. The results show that the parameters, characteristics and evolution rules of the longitudinal motion modes of the flying-wing aircraft are similar to those of the conventional aircraft, and no new mode characteristics appear. The lateral mode is significantly different from that of the conventional aircraft, especially the Dutch roll mode deteriorates seriously or even disappears. The yaw static instability is the cause of this characteristics. The sideslip angle feedback is introduced to increase the yaw stability. And it is an effective control strategy. The research methods and results provide valuable information for aerodynamic evaluation, control strategy design and control effectiveness determination, or parameters selection for flying wing aircraft at the design stage.
