This paper endeavors to bring out the prediction techniques for maintenance of bilge pumps onboard ships and marine platforms. This work is oriented toward conversion of Planned Preventive Maintenance techniques to Condition based Preventive Maintenance (CBPM) for Bilge Pumps, by studying its present maintenance schedule, past defect history, etc. and creating a decision support system by applying the various Artificial Intelligence tools and techniques. The main motive is to reduce the present turnaround time required for the time-based maintenance of the pumps by incorporating CBPM technique and undertaking maintenance only when needed as the Decision support system predicts. Further, this will also ensure a high level of availability of the Marine platforms as well as improve the overall equipment life.
