The concluding chapter of the book focuses on the promotion of chosen and reversible immobility and mobility through integrated planning and transport policies and is organized into two sections. The first addresses policies for immobility enablement, aimed at enhancing the direct or indirect provision of activities and services to reduce travel needs by fostering accessibility by proximity. The discussion draws on the recent debate surrounding the concept of the x-minute city and its practical applications in various global contexts, highlighting both potentials and limitations of these approaches. The second section reviews best practices for mobility enablement, exploring alternatives to traditional public transport supporting sustainable and shared mobility, facilitated by emerging technologies. Both sections reference policies applicable across diverse settlement contexts, extending models and visions traditionally associated with compact cities to encompass low-density peri-urban areas, ultimately providing a comprehensive overview of relevant planning policies for immobility and mobility enablement.
