The conventional drivetrainDrivetrain with an internal combustion engine that burns diesel fuel from mineral oil has been propelling trucks for many decades (the first truck with a diesel engine first appeared in the 1920 s). It is expected that the diesel engine will continue to play a dominant role in propelling commercial vehicles for the next 10 years. However, the quest to find alternatives to the conventional diesel drivetrain is ongoing. The most important impetus to find extensions or alternatives to the conventional diesel drivetrain is resulting from the concern about CO2 emission and climate change.
