During the braking process, friction between the brake discs/drums and the brake lining converts the energy a moving car produces into heat. It is important to note that friction brakes can experience several problems, such as thermomechanical failure, brake fade, judder, disc distortions, and brake squeal, among others. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including material choices, improper maintenance, and driver behaviour. Several new technologies have been developed that can be used to avoid these problems. This paper discusses the present status and modern trends in frictionless braking system technologies. It discusses the advantages and disadvantages of different system technologies, as well as new concepts. Frictionless braking systems for automotive applications are also discussed. The paper focuses on the potential and future impact of these technologies.
