Wave energy converters (WECs) face significant challenges in experiencing extreme sea events, such as severe storms, that can impose devastating loading on their structures (Ransley et al. in Renew Energy 109:235–247, 2017 [30]). Extensive investigations, including theoretical, numerical, experimental studies, and field tests, have been conducted to understand the hydrodynamic performance and design criteria of oscillating water column (OWC) systems, such as wave loading, hydrodynamic efficiency, wave reflection/transmission, power take-off system, and more.
