Aiming at the line of sight (LOS) angle tracking in the interception of large maneuvering targets by laser beam riding steered (LBRS) interceptor, this article presents a prescribed performance guidance (PPG) law with the limited interception distance. Firstly, to overcome the obstacle where the LBRS interceptor cannot directly access target information, a missile-target motion model is derived, leveraging the relative position of the interceptor within the laser beam information field. Secondly, considering both the energy effective range of the LBRS system and the interception accuracy requirements, a prescribed distance performance function (PDPF) is designed to ensure that the control system converges within the expected interception distance. A nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO) is employed to estimate the maneuvering information of the target and unmodeled uncertainties. The guidance law is formulated within the backstepping framework, enabling the LOS angle to rapidly track the target’s direction angle relative to the guidance station, thus ensuring precise interception of maneuvering targets. Finally, by using a simulation case of large maneuvering target interception to verify the effectiveness of this work.
