The PlanetScope satellite’s SuperDove sensor provides daily images with a three-meter spatial resolution. This high-resolution satellite imagery can monitor the Earth’s surface, including cannabis plantations, in detail. In Indonesia, cannabis plantations are illegal and classified as Class 1 according to Narcotics Law No. 35 of 2009. The inaccessibility of these area poses significant challenge for local authorities to counter this illegal action. In this paper, SuperDove sensor is used to calculate NDVI; based on RED (650–680 nm) and NIR (845–885 nm) bands; and monitor the land cover changes from natural forest to illegal cannabis plantation land over two years. By analyzing the NDVI from each SuperDove imagery, this study tracked the cannabis growth cycle, including vegetative, flowering and ripening stages. The cannabis NDVI changes of each stage is clearly depicted in the graph. The observation shows how illegal cannabis plantation takes around 6–7 months per cycle before it is either eradicated by authorities or harvested by the suspect. On the other hand, the NDVI of natural forests shows a stable trend over the years. This study presents the success of the extraction of NDVI from SuperDove sensor and displays the signature phenology of illegal cannabis that can be used to differentiate from other nearby objects.
