Humans have their own intelligence and dynamics, who are always hawk to a sophisticated lifestyle. To achieve such a lifestyle, people tend to migrate from rural to urban civilization. Integrating human intelligence (HI) with artificial intelligence (AI) people make an effort to prosper their city with cutting edge technologies. To keep an eye on urban civilization and their quality of life, this study focused on amenities available in the smart city. Smart cities are composite and enormous distributed systems, distinguished by their multiplicity, to cut out the use of non-renewable resources, to dominate traffic signals, to protect homes from intruders and to beat the death rate by applying swarm intelligence-based smart city applications. This paper traverses, conceptually and practically, how the burgeoning AI bisects the design of the city by disputing numerous swarm intelligence-based algorithms. Swarm intelligence is a very encouraging paragon to hand out with complicated and dynamic systems. It introduced vigorous, extensible and self-categorized natures to distribute with high-powered and fast replacing systems. Existing literature regarding smart city development and security concerns which have been immensely benefited by employing swarm intelligence-based approaches have been reviewed thoroughly which can provide a research direction also to the future researchers in this domain.
