Abstract Port is well-recognized as the crucial infrastructure for a country and the major hub in its comprehensive transport system. China has become globally notable in port. Due to the enormous change in the environment of the Chinese and overseas economic and social development, China’s Central Government and local governments have issued a number of policies to promote the transformation and upgrading of the nation’s ports. Ports in China have striven to explore suitable models for port transformation and upgrading. This chapter includes three sections. Section 10.1 introduces the macro-economic background, industrial background and policy background of China’s port transformation and upgrading. Section 10.2 describes five transformation and upgrading models of China’s ports, and Section 10.3 presents an outlook on the future trends of China’s port transformation and upgrading, taking into consideration of China’s future development strategy and technological advancement.
