The development of a tourist industry in the Russian Federation has begun to actively develop in the past few years. Along with southern destinations, such as Sochi, Krasnodar Territory, Crimea, the eastern part of Russia is actively developing: the Far East and the Trans-Baikal Territory. Russia has a huge territory and borders with several countries, such as China and Mongolia, in the Asian part. The paper discusses the possibility of developing waterways along the Selenga River, which flows through the territory of the Russian Federation and Mongolia. On the territory of the Russian Federation, there is a unique water body - Lake Baikal. This is a beautiful place and a strategically important facility that contains a huge supply of drinking water. The uniqueness of the lake, its extraordinary nature and the chemical and biological composition of the water, due to which the water has a high transparency, make it attractive to scientists and tourists from all over the world. Thousands of people come to Lake Baikal every year, whether they are participants in forums, scientific expeditions, festivals, or just tourists. In recent years, the tourist flow, including foreign ones, has sharply increased. A large proportion of foreign tourists are citizens of the neighboring countries of the Russian Federation - China and Mongolia. Cross-border tourism is associated with overcoming state borders, accordingly, coordinated recreational development of such territories is necessary. In accordance with the location, status and capacity, it is possible to form tourist flows. The purpose of this paper is to consider the option of restoring the waterways between the Russian Federation and Mongolia along the Selenga River.
