Some fixed-pitch propellers need to meet the thrust requirements for both low-speed vertical takeoff/landing and high-speed horizontal cruise flight modes. In this study, a multi-objective genetic algorithm based on radial basis function (RBF) surrogate models is developed for aerodynamic optimization design of fixed-pitch propeller. The propeller geometry is modeled by parameterization, and Latin hypercube sampling (LHS) experimental design method is employed to generate sample points for building RBF surrogate models to replace computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical simulations. With power of engine as constraint, maximum hover thrust and cruise thrust as objectives, the three-dimensional aerodynamic optimization design of fixed-pitch propeller is conducted. The results show that the aerodynamic load of the optimized propeller shifts towards the inner side of blade, improving the thrust distribution along the span of the blade. The thrust and efficiency in hover and cruise conditions are improved with the constraint of engine power, enhancing the overall aerodynamic performance of the propeller.
