The study of pedestrian dynamicsPedestrian dynamics has attracted the attention in various research fields because of its potential impact on the design of infrastructures and crowd safety. Recent studies have emphasised that the presence of social groupsSocial group such as families and friends would impact on pedestrian dynamics. However, how social groups affect collective decision-makingDecision-making on the move is largely unknown. Here, we construct a simple simulation model of collective decision-making in evacuationEvacuation situations, and show that the presence of social groups can result in a robust collective sensing in response to uncertain exit information.
