In order to reduce the time of ship entering the chamber and improve the operation efficiency of the Three Gorges ship lift, this paper analyzes the operation process of the Three Gorges ship lift, the characteristics of the ship entering the chamber and the operation conditions of the ship lift equipment, and puts forward the 'SEO operation method' for the no-load operation of the Three Gorges ship lift. The reliability theory is used to analyze the method. After calculation, there liability of the 'SEO operation method' is 93.10%. Combined with the operation of the Three Gorges ship lift, the reference flow chart of the ship's 'SEO operation method' is made to guide the field personnel to carry out fine operation according to the ship's heading and ship type. Compared with the time of ship entering the chamber before and after the use of 'SEO operation method', the efficiency of upward ship entering the chamber can be increased by 18.33%, and the efficiency of downward ship entering the chamber can be increased by 8.98%.
