The Salyut Space Stations and their successor, the MIR Space Station, have provided microgravity environments for researchers to utilize. With recent political changes in the former Soviet Union and the new openness of the Russian aerospace community, increased opportunities for access to MIR as a permanent orbital research platform are available. Recently acquired data concerning the MIR microgravity environment can be compared to similar microgravity data acquired on the U.S. Space Shuttle and Spacelab.
