Drag reduction of automobile vehicle has a great significance for energy saving and ecological protection. A novel wake structural truncated-pyramid shape spoiler is proposed in the paper to reduce aerodynamic drag induced by rear base, and the simplified Ahmed’s model is established based on COMSOL RANS k-ε turbulent flow module, and the modeling approach yields good agreement with the former experimental and simulation results. The effect of spoiler geometry parameters on velocity distribution and drag coefficient under typical wind speed is also analysed through the modeling. The results indicate that drag coefficient can be reduced up to 38.27% through installing the truncated-pyramid spoiler, and the drag coefficient roughly decreases with the increasing of truncated-pyramid height and the decreasing of truncated-pyramid shrinkage. The research would provide a new way for mobile vehicles with bluff wake body to improve the aerodynamic performance.
