Now-a-days almost all the electric cars are fitted with Lithium-ion batteries due to their self discharge characteristics and high energy density. The major drawback concerning Lithium-ion batteries is that, when a certain temperature is achieved, it could lead to the explosion of the battery. Therefore, Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS) is introduced which helps in the distribution of heat. In this work, a prismatic battery with a mini-channel tube design is used to study the characteristics at different discharge rates and flow rates. The characteristics of the battery are stimulated with ANSYS19.2 tool, at discharge rates of 1-C, 1.5-C, and 2-C with water flow rates of 0.05, 0.5, and 5 LPM. Mesh and time-independent study was performed to validate and find the optimal element size, time step, and the number of iterations. The results obtained indicate a better uniform temperature distribution due to the constructive aluminum mini channels around the lithium-ion battery.
