This article presents a detailed investigation of the impact behaviour of different fibre reinforced composites. A testing programme of low-velocity and high-velocity impact was carried out to evaluate the damage resistance and tolerance of laminates, non-crimp fabric (NCF) reinforced and three-dimensional (3D) woven fabric reinforced composites. The results showed that 3D woven composites have the best damage resistance and tolerance in low-velocity impact, while NCF composites show superior damage resistance in high-velocity impact. Laminate composites have the best in-plane mechanical properties.
