The jet flow at the orifice produced by a cavity-pumping device is studied in the present paper. Internal instantaneous pressure is obtained using analytical solution based on assumptions of isothermal condition and incompressible flow. An example of a venting of a cylindrical cavity with initial volume 1.59 × 10−5 m3 and orifice area 1.96 × 10−5 m2 is considered to determine the differential pressure across the orifice under the sinusoidal variation of the cavity volume. Variation of maximum pressure jump across the orifice as function of angular frequency is obtained for a given cavity volume ratio. The analytical solution of time-dependent volume of incompressible flow retains all the geometrical parameters of the synthetic jet actuator, therefore, can be employed to validate numerical solution of compressible flow under the isothermal condition.
