A wall fuel-film flow model is developed to predict the effect of wall fuel film on the air-fuel ratio in transient conditions in spark-ignition engines. Fuel redistribution in the intake port due to backflow and simple liquid fuel behaviour in the cylinder are included. Liquid fuel film flow is calculated for every crank angle degree using the instantaneous air flowrate. The calculated results are compared with the experimental results from a four-cylinder DOHC engine. The predicted results agree well with the experimental results. To maintain a constant air-fuel ratio for the rapid throttle opening/closing conditions and a cold start, the fuel injection rate control can be obtained from the simulation results.
