Damping is a complex phenomenon, which acts in the form of absorption and dissipation of energy in the vibrating systems. Joints are inherently present in all most all assembled structures that contribute significantly to the slip damping. The joints fabricated by welding contribute to the damping mechanism in assembled structures. In this study, the relationship between the dynamic slip and damping capacity has been theoretically investigated considering the higher modes of vibration of the welded aluminium cantilever beams. The damping ratios of these structures are determined using forced vibration test method. It has been confirmed through the comparison of theoretical and experimental results that the damping capacity of a jointed cantilever beams can be well estimated using the proposed method.
