The type of alcohol used as an extender for gasoline and the percentage of alcohol by volume has the ability to double or triple the rate of fuel permeation through a fuel hose. Rate of permeation of alcohol extended fuel also varies with the type of fuel hose, being a function of the materials used in hose construction. The rate of fuel permeation, comparing Reference Fuel C with three types of alcohol extended blends of Reference Fuel C, was obtained by using the closed reservoir test method for fuel hose types SAE J30R9, J30R8 and J30R7.
