The critical temperature/voltage relationship for initiation of thermal runaway is characterized for standard antimonial, low antimonial, and nonantimonial automotive lead-acid batteries. Current acceptance under overcharge conditions over the full range of normal operating temperatures and applied voltages is also reported. These data quantify the merits of removing antimony from lead-acid batteries.
