The paper reviews briefly the background of world space activities and, in particular, space launch activities and the origins of the Cape York International Spaceport proposal. The Feasibility Studies undertaken in 1986 and 1987 are mentioned and the advantages of the Cape York International Spaceport outlined. The two new concepts in relation to spaceports, namely ‘commercial’ and ‘international’ are discussed at some length. A potential future course of action is then suggested.
