SMS is only one component of the larger multifactoral problem of space adaptation syndrome (SAS). The conditions of spaceflight and habitation in space consequent to Space Station tours and Mars voyages necessitates the understanding of SAS and the physiological mechanisms invoked by this response. Minimizing maladaptive physiological responses while enhancing those mechanisms which appropriately copes with the gravitoinertial conditions of spaceflight will require an intimate knowledge of the physiology of manned spaceflight and the adaptive process in order to best utilize for the purpose of minimizing Space Motion Sickness, those very homeostatic mechanisms inherent in the physiology of man.
