A substantial amount of work has been carried out trying to reach the targets for MMC-brakes.The challenge has been to both meet the function and cost demands. A significant improvement of the transfer layer stability has now been achieved by a treatment of the surface of the disc material. This treatment makes it possible to operate at relatively high temperatures without exceeding 20 % SiC in the matrix. When taking the improvements in the NVH area in consideration, the MMC discs offer a cost-effective solution for future cars.
