All automotive manufacturers have increased their focus on environmental sustainability in every area of the plant. In addition, the current economy has mandated that they seek cost reductions wherever possible.The most common technology to detackify and remove the paint overspray is based on melamine formaldehyde acid colloid. Unfortunately, both formaldehyde and melamine are now recognized as toxic agents that manufacturers are looking to reduce or eliminate.This paper presents a new sustainable paint detackification program that is designed to both reduce total cost of operation - including lower overall chemical costs as well as minimization of unnecessary downtime and, most importantly, eliminate any toxic components. This technology, Nalco's APEX program, utilizes chemistry containing 99% renewable components representing a true step change improvement in program sustainability and environmental footprint reduction.
