Recent developments in microcomputer technology allow us to implement the “office of the future” today. The low cost personal computer is the key to this concept. PC software is able to provide such applications as CAD/CAM, workprocessing, spreadsheets, and electronic mail. Standard networks link the workstations to factory database managers and corporate-wide computer facilities. This paper outlines a workstation strategy, and highlights both the strengths and weaknesses uncovered during implementation of such a system.
