The CASA C-101 family is briefly described herein. Since 1974 when the Spanish Air Force requested a new jet trainer, different versions have been developed, increasing MTOW, weapons versatility, thrust, and finally avionics in order to enhance light ground attack capabilities. A “Weapons System” philosophy has been applied to achieve these two main goals: basic/advanced trainer for today's and future fighters, which implies similar navigation/weapons instruments and functions; and the aircraft as a platform for very different missions based upon a wide capability of installing NAV/COM, displays, ECM, WAC systems, as well as introduction of HOTAS philosophy and everything integrated in a given configuration to serve as a whole for the specified mission.
