This paper discusses the development of a short, reliable laboratory engine test procedure for predicting the performance of gasoline carburetor detergency additives. The test apparatus and operating procedures are described, and work done to determine the repeatability of measurements and correlation with field results is discussed. Included is a description of the rating method developed for this procedure.
